--This is SUCH a long post--so I just decided to try something.... Hmmmm.

--I haven't officially yet welcomed mayahearthwoman to LJ! Let me do so now with much pomp and ceremony. As many of you know, Maya and lasracha are 2 peas in a pod, best friends in real-life and die-hard Harry Potter fans: relative fandom newbies who have wowed us all with their fanfics--from Maya the hilarious "Draco Malfoy, the Amazing Bouncing...Rat?", and the much-loved "Underwater Light"; from Lasair the intriguing and beautiful "Veela Magic." I really look forward to getting to know these two, and I most especially love their interaction--the way they have a mutual real-life center of support, beta-reading, and encouragement in one another. We should all be so lucky, no?

--From a newbie to an oldie: I just got the shock of my life in realizing that Lori--yes, PoU Lori--has a livejournal!! Lori, welcome! I don't really know you, but I have a story to tell, and I'm so glad I can share it with you. I only became a fully active member of the fandom--i.e. the HP fanfic world--back in December; but before then I was an on and off-again fandom lurker, and had been ever since May of 2000, not quite a year after I first read the books. I was completely new to the fandom and I was mostly interested in discussion, but I was looking around on E-groups, and what should I find, but a discussion list devoted, not to the books themselves, but to a fanfic! I had never heard of such a thing in my life, and my reaction was, good god, what kind of fanfiction can evoke such a response that it has a discussion list--and fanart to boot?!

So I sat down that day in May and read Paradigm of Uncertainty in one sitting, and to this day I'll never forget it. My overall reaction was, "what? But--but--Hermione's supposed to be with Ron!" --and it was the influence of Lori's fic that caused me to reexamine the subtext in all 3 books, so that when GoF came out I was able to read it and eventually realize all the canon possibilities for Harry/Hermione. I remember the experience vividly--my first major Harry Potter fanfic. So thank you for that, Lori, and welcome to Livejournal. Everyboy, go check out madlori and say hi to one of the true veterans of the fandom!

--I just realized that I need to post 2 more Niffler recs by the end of the week. Anybody have any suggestions as to the fics you think deserve checking out? I have several in mind but I love hearing about fic recs, so post em if you got em. :D

--It's 6:17 and I haven't been to bed yet. I know I should be exhausted, but I know too that if I crash now I won't wakt up til like 3 am and I really want to keep working on the G&H site while I'm on a roll--since html coding is something I'm almost NEVER on a roll about.

--Speaking of being on a roll, for the first time (and probably only time) ever, I actually have a SET DATE for LUW 11. It will be out on Monday July 1st on the Armchair. I think Penguin and I will have lovely surprises for the list members, and we'll say hello to the next Featured Author of the Month. Uh...as of this moment I haven't decided who exactly that's going to be--I'm debating between one of two authors simply because I feel the timing would be more beneficial for one than the other... Of course, I have to see what said author thinks about that before I herd them into the spotlight. :D

--And speaking of the Armchair--I'm just going to take a minute to do some unbridled bragging. I have NEVER had such a completely overwhelmingly positive beginning experience with any mailing list as this one. You guys have been so mature, so thoughtful, and so truly enthusiastic about the fics you read, and in your wilingness to take part in discussions of all kinds. The review discussion thread--all 35 messages and counting-- is just blowing me away. I cannot tell you enough what a wonderful list you are, and I am currently working on all kinds of ways to make it fun and lively and keep the good thing going. Thank you so very very very much. This list has been the one repeated bright spot in a really really surreal month.

--I've decided that the Velvet Underground, and a refrigerator stocked full of Coke makes me quite happy.

--Heidi and B.K's HP Mod list sounds really kickass!!! I'm excited! I think everybody is, actually, and I'm sure it'll turn out to be a great decision. You can just hear the wheels churning in the fandom in moments like this, you know???

--titanic_days, this is all your fault: Since I've had this song in my head all day I figured I'd share the lyrics. And no, you don't get a cut tag because I think these lyrics are too cool to cut away for:

Oh darling why'd you talk so fast
Another evening just flew past tonight
And now the daybreak's coming in
And I can't win and it ain't right
You tell me all you've done and seen
And all the places you have been without me
Well I don't really want to know
But I'll stay quiet and then I'll go
And you won't have no cause to think about me

There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's Elvis
Just like you swore to me that you'd be true
There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's Elvis
But he's a liar and I'm not sure about you

Oh darling you're so popular
You were the best thing new in Hicksville
With your mohair suits and foreign shoes
News is you've changed your pick-up for a Seville

And now I'm lying here alone
'Cause you're out there on the phone
To some star in New York
I can hear you laughing now and
I can't help feeling that somehow
You don't mean anything you say at all

There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's Elvis
Just like you swore to me that you'd be true
There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's Elvis
But he's a liar and I'm not sure about you
I said he's a liar and I'm not sure about you
I said he's a liar and I'm not sure about you
