A blood-soaked vengeance tale from Japan drew the biggest boos in the race for the Cannes Film Festival’s top prize Monday, with critics savaging a “risible” parade of cliches.

Japanese director Takashi Miike unveiled “Shield of Straw” (Wara No Tate) about a nationwide bounty hunt for a child rapist who murders the seven-year-old granddaughter of a billionaire politician.

The man offers a 1 billion yen reward for the criminal’s capture and killing. The offer touches off a frenzy in the country, sending hordes of would-be vigilantes on the chase for the murderer.

Fearing for his life, the killer turns himself in and a team of cops—a widower whose wife was killed by a drunk driver and a single mother—see it as their duty to protect him at all costs despite his crimes.

But they must fend off all manner of armed assailants—some driven by greed for the reward and others, crime victims themselves who feel let down by the system, by a desire for a delayed sense of justice.

The picture, one of 20 vying for the Palme d’Or award, got off to a promising start with impromptu applause for a spectacular ambush scene executed with military precision.

Bright and cheerful, the CF shows the members in several different scenes tapping on “True Beyond” phones to show people their different functions. After the first half of the “True Beyond” opening concluded, the members of Girls’ Generation later returned for the second half, this time accompanied by Sooyoung. During the second half, the MC and group discussed the Girls’ Generation live wallpapers and other functions featured on the “True Beyond” phones. As a treat for the audience, Girls’ Generation sang part of “I Got A Boy”, and Hyoyeon and the MC of the event also danced to a short part of “Gee”, with the fans attending singing along. At the event’s finale, the members of Girls’ Generation were given phone cases to decorate using a variety of decals. They showed the cases to the cameras and then gave their last greetings to their fans.

The official website for Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine announced on Tuesday that Eiichiro Oda's One Piece manga would be going on hiatus for the magazine's next two issues. The magazine's editors explained that the manga creator is being hospitalized for a peritonsillar abscess, a complication due to an infection frequently caused by tonsillitis. One Piece will not be serialized in the magazine issues that ship on May 27 and June 3, but the manga is expected to return on June 10.

The editors also noted that One Piece will still be listed on the survey postcard in the next issue, since the postcard was already printed before Oda's hospitalization. Next Monday's issue lists "tonsilitis" as the name of the illness, but the editors clarified that "peritonsillar abscess" is the correct term. Shueisha apologized to fans who were looking forward to the next chapter, and asked them to keep supporting One Piece in the future.

Lee Hyori will be appearing on the SBS variety show “Barefoot Friends.” According to the SBS broadcasting station on May 21, Lee Hyori wrapped up filming an episode of “Barefoot Friends” that took place around Jirisan. (Jiri mountain that is in the southern region of South Korea)

The reason that Lee Hyori is appearing in “Barefoot Friends” is because of her connection with the PD of SBS’ “Family Outing” Jang Hyuk Jae. Lee Hyori has comeback as a singer after a long time. The appearance in “Barefoot Friends” is notable because this is her first variety show appearance after her comeback.

On May 21, Lee Hyori released her 5^th official album “Monochrome” through several music websites. The title song of the album is “Bad Girls.”
