Fics! Things! Books!

i've been putting off posting b/c I had a bunch of book reviews I wanted to make, but things keep piling up on my "to-write-about" list so here goes:

VERY IMPORTANT MERLIN THINKY THINGS

  • Fic Rec: Camelot's Sweethearts by definewisdom. Merlin modern AU spun loosely off of America's Sweethearts. Arthur/Merlin, 60,000 words.

I just tortured everyone on Twitter by tweeting my reactions to this fic in real time, but I couldn't help it because it was seriously fabulous and amazing, and I have no idea why I'm not seeing it recced more. Seriously, this fic is 60,000 words of delicious torture and love, and also hilarious and angsty and smoothly drawn, and fraught with a subtle line of tension in a way that reminded me at times of Drop Dead Gorgeous. Please, go, read, give it love! ♥♥♥

  • I think I have now read every genderswap fic in this fandom. What does this mean? Why am i doing this? Does anyone have any more that I haven't read. :|

  • I HATE WILL. I HATE HIM I HATE HIM I HATE HIM. Will is the Ginny Weasley of this fandom. He has no redeeming features whatsoever, every time he is in a fic I DIE INSIDE, DIE, do you understand me, DEAD GOES MY HEART. why would anyone WASTE A SECOND OF THEIR LIFE WRITING ABOUT HIM HE IS SUCH A PATHETIC USELESS ASSHOLE LOSER ugh ugh ugh at least he is dead whatever whatever okay moving on (can you tell I have been bottling that up)

    Book Reviews!

Shadowed Summer by Saundra Mitchell, aka anywherebeyond.

I really enjoyed this! Collapse )

Does My Head Look Big In This? by Randa Abdel-Fattah.

I LOVED this book. Loved. Randa Abdel-Fattah is the Australian-born-Muslim-Palestinian-Egyptian-chocoholic's answer to Laurie Halse Anderson, and I just. Collapse )

Also, I just want to note that I also have tried out The Amaranth Enchantment by Julie Berry, and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Collapse )

And seriously, first Kyou Kara Mao and then Enchanted, then that amazing self-published novel where the time traveler's device was in the loo (sadly i lost the link), and now this - I've never heard of "water receptacles as portals to another world" as a trope before. Is this something common??? eta: doh! and i forgot Inuyasha! thanks, bitchypixii!

Or are we just being plagued by an odd trend of sewage systems gone wrong??
