People keep asking me for Prince of Tennis fic recs that they can read without having seen the series.  I'm making a post in response so I won't keep having to look up what I've already said to people in other threads.

  • To start, every single fic that I have recced on my tenipuri guide is spoiler-free.  And it took a terribly long time to compile that list and make sure it didn't contain spoilers, so please by all means, use it, use it.  It's a buffet of nearly all the main pairings in Tenipuri (and there are a bunch so if I left some out it's not personal! just means I had been working on that guide for two months + all weekend, and was exhausted.)  And all the fics and especially all the authors there are wonderful.

    That said, with my ship, Tezuka/Ryoma, it's almost impossible to find good fic that doesn't spoil major parts of canon because it is canon!, but I've tried to compile a list below.

    Tezuka/Ryoma: Must-Read Fic Recs for the new PoT fan. 
    If you're exploring this ship and don't read these I will cry.

    Tezuka/Ryoma recs - Contain Spoilers:  you should not read these until you are done with the series. And then you should. Because they're amazing.
  • Playing Grown Ups by soundczech. This fic. Just. READ THIS.
  • Not the Triumph by prillalar. This fic is one of the best fics I've ever read, in any fandom ever.  It is brilliant and wonderful, and raw, and perfect, and I almost hesitate to rec it because it is so powerful that you will be intimidated by how tremendously full of emotion this pairing can be.  There is that much in this fic.
  • Tongue-Tied by two_if_by_sea. (This is one of my absolute absolute favorite TezuRyo fics. Considering that it, uh. Isn't.)
  • a lack thereof by two_if_by_sea. NANJIROH. NANJIROH AND RYOMA AND TEZUKA and so. much. love.
  • Breaking Orbit by flyby.  Amazing and touching and full of tennis, oh my god.
  • Facing Forward by flyby. (god I love this fic.  This is technically pre-slash but it's all there. JUST LIKE CANON. *_*)


    Tezuka/Ryoma recs - Spoiler-Free: 

  • Almost everything by flyby except the two fics I've listed above is non-spoilery and wonderful. Her writing lj is striking_sparks and she warns for spoilers, so I would just go through and enjoy.
  • To Declare My Love by soundczech.
  • The Freudian Sense by soundczech.
  • Steps by prillalar.
  • Double Holidays by freewayspike. (for this fic you need to know that there's a tradition among Japanese schools about giving your top 2 buttons away to the people you love after you graduate. and also that Tezuka wears a green wristband. *whistle*)
  • 5 Minutes Late/Perfect Strangers/Rebirth by kessie.
  • 100 Words About Propriety by poilass.
  • Uh, I don't tend to rec my own fic but Everything That Falls is not spoilery, and that's really rare for a longer fic in this pairing so far, and it's also got gorgeous fanart by glockgal, so it's worth taking a look at just for that. *_*
  • And finally, if this doesn't do it for you, nothing will. Untitled Drabble by alestar. ♥♥♥♥

    Also, I should mention I have over 200 fics in my memories that are all pairings of Tenipuri. But which are mostly TezuRyo.  I haven't vetted any of them for spoilers, though, so you'll have to trust the author to warn you, which, sometimes they don't.
